Thailand 7-Day Itinerary from India: Bangkok and Phuket, Day by Day

Thailand 7-Day Itinerary from India: Bangkok and Phuket, Day by Day

Thailand is one of the easiest first international trips from India. The flight is short, the food is familiar to many Indian travellers, and you can mix city, temples and beaches in one week. This plan covers a Thailand 7-Day Itinerary from India with three nights in Bangkok and three in Phuket. I will also explain the reasoning behind each choice, so you can change the plan to suit you. (Updated October 2026.)

Before you book: Thailand’s entry rules

Thailand has changed its rules recently, so please read this section even if you have travelled there before.

  • Visa-free stay: Recent reports say that from 15 September 2026, Thailand reduced its tourist visa-free stay to 30 days, and that Indian tourists now fall under this 30-day exemption for tourism. Many older articles still say 60 days, so be careful with anything published before this change.
  • Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC): Every foreign traveller, including children, must fill in the free TDAC online at the official site, tdac.immigration.go.th, within 72 hours before arrival. It replaced the old paper form. Do not pay anyone to fill it in. The official card is free, and fake websites exist.
  • Passport: Check its validity before you book. Many countries want at least six months, so confirm the requirement.

Rules can change again, and sources do not always agree. Before you pay for anything, check the official Thai immigration and tourism information, such as the Tourism Authority of Thailand, or your airline’s travel-document page. We help with paperwork, but the authorities make the final decision.

Why Bangkok first, then Phuket

Starting in Bangkok lets you land, rest and see the city while your body clock adjusts. Phuket is better saved for the second half, because beach days are a good way to slow down at the end of a trip. I suggest three nights in each city, because it gives you enough time to see the main sights without rushing, and it leaves a little slack if the weather affects an island tour.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Bangkok. Land in Bangkok, check in and keep the day light. Try a short walk and an easy local dinner. If you land early, a river view or a stroll in a park is a gentle start.

Day 2: Temples and the river. Visit the Grand Palace and Wat Pho in the morning, before the heat builds. Dress modestly, with shoulders and knees covered. In the afternoon, take a river boat and see Wat Arun. Keep the evening for street food in Chinatown.

Day 3: A day trip or markets. Choose one. Ayutthaya, the old capital, is a popular day trip with ruins and temples. A floating market is shorter and easier. On weekends, the Chatuchak market is a big shopping stop. Leave time for a rest, because Bangkok is hot and busy.

Day 4: Fly to Phuket. Take an early flight, which usually takes a little over an hour. Check in and spend the afternoon at a beach. Pick a base such as Kata or Karon for a quieter stay, or Patong if you want more nightlife.

Day 5: Phi Phi or Phang Nga Bay. Join a boat tour to the islands. These trips depend on the weather and sea conditions, so keep this day flexible and book with an operator that offers a safe cancellation or reschedule policy. Wear sun protection and carry a waterproof bag.

Day 6: Old Town and a slow day. Walk around Phuket Old Town and see its colourful buildings. In the afternoon, visit the Big Buddha or relax at the beach. This day is also your buffer if the island tour was moved.

Day 7: Fly home. Check out and head to the airport. Direct flights from Phuket to India depend on the season, and many travellers connect through another city, so check the schedule when you book. Leave plenty of time.

Practical tips for first-time visitors

  • Temple dress code: Cover your shoulders and knees at temples and the palace.
  • Vapes and e-cigarettes: These are banned in Thailand, so leave them at home.
  • Transport: Use metered taxis, ride-hailing apps or the metro in Bangkok. Agree on the price first for tuk-tuks, and be careful with strangers who offer “special” tours.
  • Money: Carry some baht, and check that your cards work abroad.
  • Insurance: Travel insurance is a sensible choice, especially for water activities.
  • Honesty about heat: Bangkok can be very hot and humid. Plan indoor breaks in the afternoon.

How to change this plan

  • For a honeymoon: Add more beach time in Phuket or Krabi and fewer city stops. Read our guide to honeymoon packages from Delhi to compare Thailand with other options.
  • With children: Keep days shorter, skip long drives and add a pool-friendly hotel.
  • If you have 5 days: Do Bangkok for two nights and Phuket for two.
  • If you have 10 days: Add Krabi or Chiang Mai.

What affects the cost

Your travel month, hotel category, flights, island tours and the number of nights all affect the price. Peak months cost more, and the rainy season is usually cheaper. Send us your dates and group size, and we will share a written quote.
