Vietnam has become one of the easiest international trips to plan from Delhi. You can fly nonstop, the visa is mostly online, and a week is enough to see a lot. The catch is the same one that applies everywhere: two packages with the same name can include very different things. This guide explains what a Delhi to Vietnam tour package with flights should actually cover, how the trip usually flows, and how to compare quotes properly.
Getting There: Flights from Delhi
You don’t need a layover to reach Vietnam. Nonstop flights run from Delhi to both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, operated by airlines such as IndiGo, Air India, Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air, depending on the route and season. Delhi to Hanoi takes roughly four and a half hours, and Delhi to Ho Chi Minh City is closer to five and a half. Schedules change, so confirm the current timetable at the time of booking.
This matters for your route. Many travellers fly into Hanoi and fly home from Ho Chi Minh City (or the reverse), using a short domestic flight in between. That “open-jaw” setup saves you from backtracking, and a good package will build it in for you.
What a Good Vietnam Package Should Include
Ask for an itemised list and tick these off:
- Return flights from Delhi. Check whether they are included, and whether they are nonstop or connecting.
- Domestic flights or transfers. Vietnam is long and narrow, so a trip covering north and south usually needs at least one internal flight.
- Hotels by location. A stay close to the Old Quarter in Hanoi or near the beach in Da Nang changes how much you enjoy the evenings.
- Ha Long Bay arrangements. Ask whether it’s a day cruise or an overnight stay, and which meals are covered.
- Meals. Breakfast is common. If you’re vegetarian or Jain, ask directly what is arranged, because it’s easy to miss in Vietnam.
- Visa help. Confirm whether guidance is included or you’re handling it yourself.
- What’s not included. Entry tickets, optional tours and tips are common exclusions.
Sample Routes
These are starting shapes, not fixed products.
5 nights / 6 days: Hanoi and Ha Long Bay. A compact first trip. You explore Hanoi’s Old Quarter and lake area, spend a day on Ha Long Bay, and add Ninh Binh if time allows. Good for people with limited leave who want a strong sense of the north.
7 nights / 8 days: Hanoi, Da Nang and Hoi An. This is the most balanced route. Start in the north, fly to Da Nang for the beach, Ba Na Hills and the lantern-lit old town of Hoi An, and fly home from there or from Ho Chi Minh City. It works well for couples and families.
9 to 10 nights: north to south. Add Ho Chi Minh City with a Cu Chi Tunnels visit and a Mekong Delta day. It’s the best way to feel how different the regions are, but only if you’re happy to move every couple of nights.
A tip from experience: pick two or three bases and stay put. Vietnam looks small on a map, but transfers, check-ins and domestic flights eat time quickly.
Visa for Indian Travellers
Indian passport holders need a visa for mainland Vietnam. The simplest route is the online e-visa. The government fee is USD 25 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry, and the official processing time is 3 working days after you submit the application and pay. In practice it can take longer around busy periods such as Tet (Vietnamese New Year), so applying a few weeks ahead is sensible.
Three practical points:
- Apply only through the official government portal, or through an agent you trust. Some third-party sites add large service charges.
- Check every detail before submitting. Applications can’t be edited afterwards, and the fee isn’t refunded if there’s a mistake.
- Make sure your planned entry airport is accepted on the e-visa.
Phu Quoc Island has a visa-free rule for Indians, but with strict conditions (you must arrive directly from abroad and stay on the island), so it doesn’t apply to a typical multi-city trip. If you want help reviewing your documents, Travelistaan’s visa assistance can go through the file with you.
Best Time to Go
Vietnam’s weather differs by region, so “best time” depends on your route.
- North (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay): Cooler and comfortable from about October to April. Winter mornings can feel chilly.
- Central (Da Nang, Hoi An): Beach weather is usually best in spring and early summer. Late autumn can bring heavy rain and storms.
- South (Ho Chi Minh City): Drier from about December to April, hot and humid otherwise.
If you’re covering the whole country, spring (roughly February to April) tends to give the best overall balance. Whichever month you choose, keep a rain plan for outdoor days.
What Affects the Price
Rather than quote a number that will be out of date next month, here is what actually moves the cost of a Vietnam package:
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Travel dates | Peak season and festival periods raise flights and hotels |
| Flight type | Nonstop vs connecting, and baggage inclusions |
| Hotel category and location | Central stays cost more but save time |
| Number of cities | More bases mean more transfers and domestic flights |
| Ha Long Bay option | Day trip vs overnight cruise |
| Group size | Private transfers get cheaper per person with more people |
Ask for an itemised quote so you can see where the money goes, and compare it line by line.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Choosing the cheapest quote without checking whether flights and domestic transfers are included.
- Packing north, central and south into five days.
- Booking Ha Long Bay without a flexible plan for bad weather.
- Applying for the visa at the last minute.
- Ignoring food needs. Say upfront if you eat vegetarian or Jain.
Who Should Pick Which Route
Couples tend to enjoy the Hanoi, Da Nang and Hoi An combination, since it mixes culture, beaches and slow evenings. Families usually do better with fewer hotels and one beach base.
