Winter Destination Weddings Abroad from Delhi: Where Families Are Actually Heading in 2026

Every November, the same thing happens in Delhi. The fog rolls in, the banquet halls in Chhatarpur and Gurgaon get booked solid, and somewhere a family WhatsApp group starts arguing about whether the wedding should just happen abroad instead.

It is a fair question. A destination wedding abroad from Delhi is no longer a celebrity thing. For many families, once you count the banquet, the decor, the hotel rooms for outstation relatives and the endless extras, a well-planned trip overseas lands closer to a big Delhi wedding than people expect. The trade-off is that you need to pick the right place for your kind of wedding, and that is where most families get stuck.

So here is a straight look at the destinations people are asking us about for winter 2026, with the good and the awkward parts of each.

Before you pick a country, answer three questions

How many people are coming? Be honest, because the number you say in January is rarely the number that shows up in December. Who is travelling? A 200-person group with grandparents and toddlers needs short flights and easy food. Forty close friends can handle a long layover. And what does “wedding” mean for your family? A full baraat with a ghodi and dhol is a very different brief from a sunset ceremony on the sand.

Once you know those three things, the shortlist almost writes itself.

Thailand (Phuket and Krabi): the safe crowd-pleaser

If we had to name the single most requested destination from Delhi, it would be Thailand. The flight is around four to five hours, resorts are used to Indian groups, and vegetarian and Jain food is rarely a problem. Phuket handles larger guest lists comfortably, while Krabi is calmer and prettier but has fewer big venues.

Winter is the dry season, so the beach pheras plan actually works. The honest downside is crowding. December and the New Year week get very busy, so rooms and venues disappear early. Our own Phuket holiday packages start from roughly ₹33,000 per person for a regular trip, and wedding groups obviously cost more, but it shows why Thailand stays popular with families watching their budget. Visa rules for Indians have changed more than once in recent years, so check the current position with the Thai embassy before you commit.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi: easiest travel, highest polish

About three and a half hours from Delhi, with flights at almost every hour of the day. That matters more than it sounds when you are moving elderly relatives. Winter weather is lovely, around the low to mid twenties, which is rare for an outdoor event in that region.

The catch is cost. Venues and catering are priced at a premium, and the final bill can climb quickly once decor and entertainment are added. If your priority is comfort for guests and a polished event, it is hard to beat. If your priority is stretching a budget, look elsewhere.

Bali: beautiful, but plan around the rain

Bali photographs better than almost anywhere, with cliff-top venues, villas and rice terraces. It suits weddings of fifty to a hundred and fifty people who want something intimate and scenic rather than a big baraat.

Here is what brochures skip: our winter is Bali’s wet season. Showers are common, and a good venue will have a covered backup that actually looks good, not a sad tent. Ask to see the rain plan before you pay any advance. Flights take seven to nine hours with a connection, so it is a bigger commitment for older guests. Our Bali packages begin around ₹37,000 per person for a standard 4N/5D trip, which gives a rough sense of the baseline costs.

Maldives: small, private and expensive

The Maldives works for a very particular wedding: a small guest list, a private resort and a couple who care more about the setting than the headcount. Most resorts have limits on guest numbers and strict rules about music and outside vendors, so a loud, traditional Indian wedding is usually not what they are built for. Read the wedding policy first, then fall in love with the photos.

It is also a strong choice if you want the wedding and honeymoon rolled into one trip. Standard packages from us start around ₹33,000 per person for a short stay, though a wedding party will naturally spend much more.

Turkey: for the couple who wants something different

Turkey is quietly climbing the list. Istanbul, Cappadocia and the coast offer history, food and venues you will not see at every other wedding. Winter is cold, though, so it suits a cosy, indoor-leaning celebration rather than a beach ceremony. Cappadocia in particular can be freezing and snowy, which is gorgeous if you plan for it and miserable if you do not. [Mention your Turkey package details or your own on-ground contacts here.]

Sri Lanka and Singapore: the practical picks

Sri Lanka is close, relatively affordable and comfortable for families who like familiar food and warm hospitality. The southwest coast is pleasant in winter. Singapore is the opposite kind of choice: clean, organised, easy and more expensive, best for smaller, polished functions or a reception rather than a full baraat.

Budget and timing: what we tell most families Winter Destination Weddings

Book early. For December and January dates, start looking nine to twelve months out, because group flights and resort blocks go first. Fix your guest list before you fix your venue. Keep a buffer of around ten to fifteen percent for things nobody puts in the first estimate, such as extra rooms, last-minute guests and transfers. And check the legal side separately. Many families register the marriage in India and hold the ceremony abroad, and a lawyer can confirm what works for your situation.

Do not skip travel insurance, and make sure every guest’s passport has at least six months of validity.

A quick way to choose

If you want the easiest logistics and a big guest list, look at Thailand or Dubai. If you want scenery and a small, close crowd, think Bali or the Maldives. If you want something offbeat and do not mind the cold, try Turkey. If you want value and short flights, Sri Lanka deserves a proper look.

Frequently asked questions

Which destination is cheapest for a wedding abroad from Delhi? Thailand and Sri Lanka usually work out cheaper than the UAE or Maldives, but the final number depends on guest count, venue and season.

When should we book? Nine to twelve months ahead for peak winter dates is a sensible rule.

Can we do Hindu pheras abroad? Yes, in many places. Pandits, mandap setups and vegetarian catering can be arranged, but confirm the legal registration separately.

Is Bali too rainy in winter? It can be. Choose a venue with a proper covered option, or look at other months.
